Why do you ask?

So yesterday I had to stop and buy plates for the cafe. We've been buying from the same place and person for almost 20 years now and I have built a decent and professional relationship with the shop keeper. So I thought today would be just like any other. Funny thing is I didn't realize this actually began a couple of months ago when I ran into "Ted" (discreet name change) while I was walking my dogs. He kindly beeped his horn and said "hello". Then a couple of days later he left me a voicemail that he needed to speak with me and I promptly returned his call. When I asked what he needed he told me he forgot. I thought, even then that was a bit strange since I had no orders and no outstanding bills. Well yesterday it all kinda came together. When I arrived my order was already packed and ready and he asked me into his office and closed the door behind us. Something he has never done before. He then said"May I ask you a personal question?" "Sure" I said, not being one to have many secrets. "Are you gay?" I was a little taken aback because our conversations over the years have never been anything but work oriented. "Yes, why do you ask are you?" I replied. "I'm not sure"he said. "I'm looking for someone to do it with so I can be sure. Do you know of anyone I can do it with?" My face turned bright red as I scrambled for some sort of halfway sensitive reply. "Well not right off the top of my head" I said. Thinking why is this 70 year old man with a skin condition on his nose and a 20 year professional relationship asking me this. Does he want me to do it with him? Why me? Am I putting off some kind of scent? I suggested that he hit one of the local gay bars but he said that would not do. He didn't want the Mrs. finding out. Oh No! I can't take much more, I thought. "Well good luck on your hunt" I said as I gathered my dishes and headed for the exit. Now I have to find a new place for plates. :(
